SERVICE BRIEF

Financial Statement Audit

U.S. GAAP Assurance for Private Companies
At Jay & Co. CPA PLLC, we provide independent financial statement audit services for privately held and non-public companies that require credible financial reporting, disciplined execution, and professional assurance.
Our audits are designed to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free from material misstatement, whether caused by fraud or error, and to support the issuance of an independent auditor’s opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, but it is not absolute assurance. The financial statements are the responsibility of management; our responsibility is to express an opinion on those financial statements based on our audit.
We take a disciplined, risk-based approach to each engagement. This includes understanding the business, assessing financial reporting risks, obtaining an understanding of internal control relevant to the audit in order to design appropriate procedures (but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of internal control), testing significant account balances and transactions, examining supporting documentation, evaluating key accounting estimates, and assessing whether the financial statements are presented fairly, in all material respects, in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

OUR METHODOLOGY

A Strong, Risk-Based Audit Approach

Every audit engagement is built around a structured methodology designed to focus audit effort on the areas that matter most.
Pillar 01
Operational Context
01

Business Understanding

We develop an understanding of operations, ownership, industry, revenue model, financing arrangements, and key financial reporting risks.
Pillar 02
Risk Identification
02

Risk Assessment

We identify areas susceptible to material misstatement and design procedures responsive to the assessed risks.
Pillar 03
Procedure Scoping
03

Internal Control Understanding

We obtain an understanding of internal control relevant to the audit to determine the nature, timing, and extent of procedures — not to express an opinion on the effectiveness of internal control.
Pillar 04
Field Testing
04

Substantive Audit Procedures

We test significant transactions, account balances, and disclosures using appropriate audit procedures and supporting evidence.
Pillar 05
Evidential Support
05

Audit Evidence

We evaluate records, reconciliations, schedules, confirmations, and other evidence necessary to support audit conclusions.
Pillar 06
Valuation & Estimates
06

Accounting Estimates & Judgments

We assess significant assumptions and estimates, including accruals, impairment, valuation, useful lives, and contingencies.
Pillar 07
GAAP Conformity
07

U.S. GAAP Financial Statements

We evaluate whether the financial statements and related disclosures are presented fairly in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Pillar 08
Independent Opinion
08

Audit Reporting

Upon completion, we issue an independent auditor’s report containing our opinion, which may be unmodified or modified depending on the results of the engagement.

WHY IT MATTERS

Independent Assurance That Strengthens Confidence

An independent financial statement audit does more than fulfill a compliance mandate; it reinforces financial credibility and enhances operational rigor.
Pillar 01

Credibility

Audited financial statements can enhance confidence among lenders, investors, owners, boards, and other users.
Stakeholder Trust
Pillar 02

Financial Discipline

The audit process often prompts management to strengthen reconciliations, documentation, supporting schedules, and closing practices.
Internal Reporting Quality
Pillar 03

Risk Awareness

Audit procedures may identify financial reporting risks, documentation weaknesses, or control deficiencies, which we communicate to management. An audit is not designed to identify all such matters.
Management Communication
Pillar 04

Professional Assurance

An independent CPA audit provides a formal level of assurance supported by professional standards and audit evidence.
Standardized Attest
MORE THAN AN AUDIT REPORT
A well-executed audit supports stronger financial reporting discipline, clearer documentation, and greater stakeholder confidence while preserving the auditor’s independence.
